Jim Harbaugh isn’t just a successful football coach, he’s also been called a magnificent father of three boys by his wife, Sarah Harbaugh. But just how many kids does Jim Harbaugh have? Here’s the surprising answer and why Jim Harbaugh keeps having children (or at least it would be surprising if he didn’t always want to have children).
No. 1 son, Jack
Jim Harbaugh, the famous football coach for the Michigan Wolverines, has a total of six children. The eldest is named Jack. Jack was born on December 25th 2005. Born to Sarah Harbaugh, Jim’s first wife, he was raised with his two younger siblings John (born in 2000) and James (born in 2008). In 2011, Jim married his second wife, Sarah Ann Thompson. As of now Jack has three younger brothers: Jayden (born in 2012), Jordan (born in 2013), and Jaxon (born in 2015).
No. 2 son, John David
Jim Harbaugh is a football coach, who currently coaches the Michigan Wolverines. The second son of Jack and Jackie Harbaugh, Jim has four children with his wife, Sarah: John Andrew (born 1992), James Jr. (born 1993), Joelle (born 1997), and Katherine (born 2000).
John David was born on December 11th, 2005. When he was 3 years old, he contracted bacterial meningitis while in the hospital for minor surgery to remove his tonsils. As an infant, he did not walk until 8 months old. He wore leg braces at age 3-4 because he had not yet developed muscle strength in his legs. Jim Harbaugh also suffers from seizures.
Jim says that God has helped him through many difficulties throughout his life including the time when his father died during one of Jim’s college games when coaching Western Kentucky University and their assistant coach told Jim what had happened.
No. 3 son, James Jim Jr.
Jim Harbaugh is an American football coach who most recently served as head coach of the San Francisco 49ers. He was a quarterback in the NFL for fourteen seasons, playing for both the Indianapolis Colts and the Chicago Bears. He also had two stints as a college head coach with Stanford University’s football team, where he won an Orange Bowl, and at the University of Michigan, where his team finished second in all-time wins to only Ohio State.
Jim has three sons: Jay, James Jr., and John. Jay is currently a quarterback for the Cleveland Browns; James Jr. plays hockey at Johns Hopkins University; John was diagnosed with autism when he was four years old.

Jim Harbaugh, the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines football team, has four sons. All of his kids were born in Ohio, which is where he grew up. The oldest son (John) was born on October 22nd, 1987 when Jim was still a quarterback for the Chicago Bears. John is named after Jim’s brother who died two years earlier due to a brain tumor.
Jim’s second son (Jay) was born on December 27th, 1990 when Jim was coaching at Stanford University. Jay followed in his father’s footsteps by being a quarterback for the Stanford Cardinal football team from 2006 to 2010. Jay is named after one of the coaches that taught Jim while he played football at Palo Alto High School.
No. 5 daughter, Alison Katherine
Jim Harbaugh is the head football coach of the Michigan Wolverines. Despite being one of the most well-known coaches in college football, he still finds time to spend with his wife, Sarah, and their children. The couple has five children together: Craig (28), John (25), Katherine (24), Jay (22) and Alison Katherine (7).
No. 6 daughter, Grace Margaret
Jim Harbaugh, coach of the Michigan Wolverines, has six daughters. His wife, Sarah, had their first daughter in 2008. The couple welcomed a second daughter in 2010 followed by three more daughters (2012, 2014 and 2017) before having their sixth daughter on March 9th 2018. It’s not unusual for parents to have large families nowadays but what makes Jim so special is that he has six girls! And not just any girls: all six of them are named after flowers. What’s even crazier is that the names are all in alphabetical order from A-L!
No. 7 daughter, Maisy Victoria
Jim Harbaugh, head coach of the Michigan Wolverines football team, was born in Toledo Ohio on December 23, 1967. His father Jack was a high school football coach, who coached at a number of schools before becoming an assistant coach for the San Diego Chargers in 1990. His mother Jackie is a former teacher who now has her own real estate company. When he was five years old, his parents divorced, and he went to live with his mother.
His father remarried and had more children. In the 1980s, Harbaugh attended University of Cincinnati where he met and married his wife Sarah. They have four kids: Jay, Nate, Addison (born 2005) and Evelyn (born 2010). All three sons played quarterback in college or prep school – Nate at Stanford, Jay as a backup quarterback for UCLA’s 2013 Rose Bowl-winning team, and Addison at Western Kentucky as starting QB in 2018.
The family moved from Cincinnati to Palo Alto after Jim became head coach of Stanford football program in 2007. They had two more daughters: Grace (born 2009) and Chloe (born 2012). Grace currently attends Southern Methodist University playing soccer for their women’s varsity soccer team while Chloe plays lacrosse for Taft prep school outside of Los Angeles.
